Quilligans FC 2 v 1 Wrea Green FC

Wrea Green were todays opposition for Quilligans at Collins Park. Last season Wrea Green won Division 3A at a canter remaining unbeaten in the league all season. This season they took the decision to go straight into the Premier League, and have made a fair start to their campaign only losing one of their games thus far.

Match Action

It turned out to be a tough game for Quilligans with Wrea Green having the better of the opening exchanges. Quilligans then started to settle into the game and looked more comfortable. Both sides had early chances but nothing of note that troubled either keeper.

Match Action.

As the half progressed Quilligans started to create some more meaningful efforts on goal. A Broadbent snap shot flew just over, and a good Ioannou run and cross found the head of Broadbent, but ended in a comfortable save for the Wrea Green keeper. Clowes had to on his toes to hold a well taken free kick, with Gorrie returning the compliment moments later forcing the Wrea Green keeper to parry away his effort.

Match Action

Quilligans eventually took the lead on 41 minutes. A 25 yard trademark pile driver from Danny Rowe flying past the despairing dive of the Wrea Green keeper. To their credit Wrea Green kept working hard and got an equaliser a minute later. A poor backpass from Pearson to Clowes meant the latter had to hurry his clearance. Sinnett picked the ball up and finished with aplomb - a delightful chip from just outside the area.

Match Action

Half-time 1-1.

Both sides again had early shots at goal, but failed to trouble either keeper. In fact the half was devoid of anything of note, apart from a Wrea Green effort which Clowes gathered at the second attempt, until Quilligans took the lead on 69 minutes. A good through ball found Sugden who held off the attention of a Wrea Green defender before firing home.

Match Action

Ioannou nearly increased Quilligans lead when a great ball from Docker found him lurking in the Wrea Green area, but his shot went agonisingly wide. Rowe also had another pile driver which hit the side netting.

Match Action

Full time 2-1.

Quilligans made hard work of this game, but credit to Wrea Green. They look a decent side and played some good stuff at times. If they play that that every week they will finish nearer the top than the bottom.
