Quilligans FC 1 v 0 Red Rose Catering

Another home fixture saw Quilligans take on Red Rose Catering at Collins Park. The blustery and cold conditions weren't conducive to a flowing game of football, with Quilligans starting against the wind and kicking up the slope.

Match Action

Quilligans started to apply the early pressure with Red Rose clearing a corner off their goal line, and a Rowe shot going wide of the upright. Quilligans were beginning to master the difficult conditions by trying to playing some football. However, it was Red Rose who had a guilt edged chance to break the deadlock.

Match Action

A good ball found Gillett who raced clear but as Clowes advanced, he was closer to finding Common Edge Road than he was the net, as he spooned his effort well over the bar.

Sugden then tested the Red Rose keeper with an effort that he palmed away. Sugden then had a great chance to test the keeper again but he fired his volley woefully wide. Red Rose responded with an effort of their own but Clowes gathered easily.

Match Action

Half time, 0-0

Quilligans had the first chance of the half when some good work by Rowe found Sugden who forced a good save from the Red Rose keeper.

Palmer was then unlucky to get on the scoresheet when a free kick from inside his own half caught the wind, taking a wicked bounce before hitting the bar with the Red Rose keeper back peddling.

Match Action

Brooks then made a goal saving tackle in the box when a Red Rose player was about to pull the trigger, the ball fell to his team mate but he blasted over.

Spedding was replaced by Bracewell on 70 minutes.

With the clock running down Red Rose had a good spell and started to pressure Quilligans in search of a winner, with a 25 yard effort just wide of the upright. However, it was Quilligans who took the led with around 15 minutes left.

Match Action

With Red Rose players aggrieved at not having being awarded a free kick close to the Quilligans area, a ball forward ended with a free kick around 25 yards from the Red Rose goal. Rowe rifled it goalbound striking the post, Sugden pounced on the rebound and slammed it into the net.

Match Action

Red Rose didn't give up and went in search of an equaliser forcing a smart save from Clowes, and a great tackle from Pearson snuffed out the danger.
