Quilligans visited Layton tonight in a key league game. The pitch was not the best and really made it difficult to play any decent football as Quilligans like to do.
Danny Rowe had the first chance of note after some good work in midfield, but dragged his shot inches wide. Quilligans dominated the opening half but the Layton defence held firm under severe pressure from Catlow, Rowe and Spedding.
Nuttall came close but delayed his shot to allow a desperate challenge to rob him, and from the ensuing corner, Brooks and Bracewell got in each other way with the goal gaping.
Layton finished the half by almost snatching a shock lead but the home forward fired over when more composure was needed.

A similar pattern continued in the second half with Clowes in the Quilligans goal being a virtual spectator. Danny Rowe's excellent free kick rattled the crossbar, Phil Ioannou's excellent run finished with a shot that was inches wide and Bracewell's drive was saved by the keeper.
Same as the game at Collins Park it looked like Layton were going to hang on for a draw. However, the same was to happened as it did at Collins Park. Some smart work from Ioannou and Corless ending with Danny Rowe being fed the ball in the box and he expertly controlled it and drilled it in the net, much to the relief of his team mates and the Quilligans fans.
Quilligans saw out the remaining ten minutes without too much alarm and had a couple of chances of adding to the scoreline.

In summary, not a vintage performance by any means by Quilligans, the pitch seeing to that as it was uneven and badly needs cutting and rolling. However, Quilligans never looked in danger of losing, it just needed a bit of composure and Danny Rowe provided it for another excellent winner.
Docker Brooks was the pick of the Quilligans players, a towering performance from the big man at the back, ably assisted by Wilson and Pearson, ensuring the Layton strike force of Holloway and Meehan were not given any chances.
