Hydronics 0 v 0 Quilligans FC

Quilligans FC travelled to Thornton Sports Centre to take on Hydronics in the first of two dress rehearsals for the Gledhill Trophy Final, knowing that 3 points would win then the Premier League title.

Match Action

The opening exchanges were tight with the odd half chance being created and even they didn't trouble either keeper.

Match Action

Hydronics blazed over after a nice footballing move, then they had another chance to open the scoring when a long throw went straight across the face of the Quilligans goal, but no final touch was forthcoming.

Match Action

Later in the half Clowes made a good block and gathered at the second attempt.

Half-time 0-0.

Match Action

The second half started as the first finished, the game poised nicely with both teams matching each other. Clowes made two good saves early in the half to keep the scores level.

Match Action

Quilligans responded with Catlow having an effort blocked and Palmer heading over. Pearson nearly got the opener after some nice footwork but screwed his effort just wide.

Match Action

As Quilligans pushed in search of a winner, Hydronics were quick and dangerous on the break, with Clowes again having to make a good save.

Match Action

Boal then went close for Quilligans and forced the Hydronics keeper into a save.

Match Action

Nuttall replaced Cook and Moore came on for the injured Spedding. Palmer could have won it at the death with a volley from close range but the Hydronics keeper blocked it. So with neither side able to break the deadlock it concluded a stalemate.

Match Action

Full-time 0-0.

In summary, not a classic and a draw was probably the right result. Credit to Hydronics though they played well and had the best of the chances. Spedding was impressive for Quilligans today, he held the ball up well and seems to get better with each game he plays. Clowes made some important saves tonight and collected well when under pressure in the box - a sign of a quality keeper.

Team

Clowes, Brooks, Bracewell, Ioannou, Cook (Nuttall 72), Pearson, Boal, Palmer, Catlow, Spedding (Moore 84), Swallow.
