Quilligans FC 7 v 0 Fleetwood CC

Quilligans started attacking Common Edge Road against the newly promoted Fleetwood CC, with a brisk wind at their backs. Quilligans nearly scored twice in the first two minutes, firstly Danny Rowe's volley from the edge of the box was turned round for a corner and from the resulting kick Sam Gorrie's header rattled the cross bar.

Quilligans quickly picked up the pace and were determined to make the advantage of the elements pay dividends. Phil Ioannou's inswinging corner was met by Anthony Pearson at the far post, and he rose above the Fleetwood defence to head Quilligans in to a 1-0 lead .

Danny Rowe was next to strike 2 minutes later as he drove in the the box before slotting the ball past the helpless Fleetwood keeper. Fleetwood were now sevely under the cosh and a Tony Clowes quick punt upfield found Danny Rowe storming in to the box and he unleashed an unstoppable drive in to the far corner, 3-0 to Quilligans with just 10 minutes on the clock, and a long day in store for the visitors.

Phil Ioannou was next to come close as a corner was cleared he hit the ball over the bar but then found a similar clearance this time fall to his left foot and he expertly curled the ball over the flailing keeper's arms for 4-0.

Danny Rowe was a constant menace for the Fleetwood defence and he made a great run before sending the ball to strike partner Lee Catlow at the far post who tapped in for a 5-0 Quilligans lead.

The final action of the half saw Scott Sugden cut inside his man and seeing the keeper anticipating a cross he drilled the ball past him on the near post for a 6-0 half time lead.

Half time, 6-0.

The second half was a bit of a non event with Quilligans spurning a few chances and having a couple disallowed for dubious offside calls. To be fair to Fleetwood they continued trying to play their way back in to the game but at 6-0 adrift it was futile. Danny Rowe wrapped up his hat trick as he powered his way in to the box before firing past the keeper.

Full-time, 7-0.

On reflection some good football played by Quilligans considering the pitch was a little uneven and the wind played a part in making it difficult, but the 100% record was kept going by some determined play from the Champions.
