Poulton SFC 1 v 2 Quilligans FC

Quilligans FC travelled to Cottam Hall to take on the LFA Trophy champions and Premier League runners up. Poulton always provide tough opposition and today was no different.

Match Action

The game started at a quick pace and both sides went close to opening the scoring. Beattie went closest for Quilligans after a mix up in the Poulton defence, lobbing just over Speight and the bar. Apart from that, it was a pretty uneventful half in terms of clear cut chances.

Match Action

Half-time 0-0.

After the break Poulton started the better side putting Quilligans under pressure. Greenall tried to chip his own keeper - Smith pulling off a great save only for the referee to deem it a pass back. The resultant Poulton free kick from around eight yards out was blocked and cleared.

Match Action

On 51 minutes Quilligans opened the scoring against the run of play. A ball over the top caught the Poulton defence napping, the ball falling to Greenall who calmly lobbed Speight from the edge of the area.

Match Action

Poulton responded and nearly equalised via a decent effort from Thompson, deflecting off Butler - bringing a superb save out of Smith.

Match Action

Poulton restored parity on the hour. A poor clearance by Smith was intercepted by Poulton who fired goalwards only for Smith to parry the effort, but Whittaker was on hand to pick up the pieces and sidefoot home from inside the area.

Match Action

The game looked to be heading for a draw, which on the balance of play would have probably been a fair result. But deep into injury time a great ball by Evans on the flank found Beattie who thrashed an absolute peach from distance into Speight's top corner to take the spoils.
