Quilligans FC 3 v 0 Great Eccleston FC

Quilligans welcomed promoted Great Eccleston on Bank Holiday Sunday to a bright but windy Collins Park. The strong wind and relatively poor state of the Collins Park pitch did have an effect on the game, as Quilligans attempted to get some passing going, but Great Eccleston competed pretty well and got to the half time break level at 0-0.

In the second half Quilligans had the wind at their backs and immediately started to increase the pressure on the Great Eccleston defence and eventually striker Mickey Evans found some space in the box and fired Quilligans in to a 1-0 lead.

A set corner routine brought Quilligans second goal as Michael Clark's inswinging corner from the right, was flicked on by Jordan Spedding at the near post and Kevan Ford was on hand at the back post to convert for a 2-0 lead.

Some good footwork by Clark sealed the win for Quilligans as he dummied a defender and then the keeper, before calmly slotting in the third goal.

Overall a bit of a scrappy affair today. Quilligans having a number of starters absent with Thompson, Butler, Pearson, Dell and Beattie who all played in last week's win at Poulton missing. Plus with Gorrie and Braebaum still out injured, Quilligans resources were stretched somewhat.

However, the versatile Paul Carroll had an excellent debut at sweeper and Paul Dickinson started showing signs of a return to form and fitness on the left. In the end, a good three points were gained making it five wins out of five for the team to maintain top spot.
