Quilligans FC 5 v 2 Copperpot FC

After being postponed last week, a pitch inspection at 09:00 deemed the Collins Park pitch fit to play. After the minutes silence for the war fallen, Quilligans got the game underway kicking towards the clubhouse.

Broadbent had the first chance of note warming the visitors keepers hands with a stinging shot that he just managed to parry away. Palmer very nearly broke the deadlock moments later but he couldn't quite connect with a ball across the face of the Copperpot goal by Slater.

On 18 minutes Quilligans took the lead. Rowe won the ball on the halfway line after some hesitation by the Copperpot defender. He then beat three players before advancing into the area and calmly curling it round the keeper and into the net. Rowe nearly doubled his tally immediately after when he sent a missile just wide.

Palmer doubled Quilligans lead on 23 minutes. Great work by the industrious Rowe found Broadbent who picked out Palmer perfectly whose glancing header found the top corner. Broadbent nearly made it three when the Copperpot keeper made a smart save from his long range effort.

From the resultant corner though Quilligans did increase their lead. A curling delivery from Greenall was flicked on by Broadbent, where Ford was lurking at the back post to stab the ball home.

Within a couple of minutes of the re-start it was 4-0. A Rowe free kick was headed home superbly by Thompson, with the Copperpot marking nowhere to be seen.

With Quilligans totally dominant, Copperpot were restricted to long range efforts which didn't test Speight in the slightest.

Half time 4-0.

The second half started with Slater replacing the injured Morris. Quilligans started the second half as they did the first. A great run by Sutton who squared the ball back across the box for Broadbent whose effort brought another fine save from the Copperpot keeper.

On 55 minutes Copperpot pulled a goal back, with a Nick Dowsie strike into the bottom corner beating Speight all ends up - probably their first real effort on target.

On 62 minutes Copperpot doubled their tally. An exocet free kick from Lomas was only parried by Speight and Lance Ogunyode was on hand to pick up the pieces and slot the rebound home.

This gave Copperpot a new lease of life and the belief that they could get something out of the game, and put Quilligans under pressure for periods of the second half. Shortly after, they thought they had a third, but a Luker strike was superbly tipped over by the agile Speight.

Quilligans began to find their feet again and Broadbent thought he had converted from a well delivered corner, but referee Cropp deemed that the ball had not crossed the line before the keeper clawed it out of the goal.
