Quilligans took on Division One promotion hopefuls Blackpool Catholic Club today at Boundary Park in the prestigious LFA Trophy, with the winners away to Mill Hill (Backburn) in the next round.

The opening exchanges were fairly even with Catholic Club giving a good account of themselves. Both sides had early chances to take the lead - a Spedding free kick was turned round the post well, and Cram broke quickly for Catholic Club, but hit the side netting with only Smith to beat.

Quilligans took the lead on 17 minutes. A ball into Dell was superbly chested down and squared to Spedding who lashed a dipping volley into the top corner of the Catholic Club's net from outside the area.

Before the break Quilligans had chances to extend their lead. A Spedding turn and shot forced a smart save from the Catholic Club keeper and Coreless fired wide from the edge of the area when he should have really hit the target. Corless was once again the villan when, with the goal at his mercy, put his effort wide when it looked easier to score.
Half-time 0-1.
After the break Catholic Club had a good spell, but they failed to breach the Quilligans rearguard. The nearest they got to troubling Smith was a shot which fizzed just past the upright.

Quilligans started to turn the screw, and Catholic Club conceeded a penalty when Coreless was brought down in the area, which Spedding converted with ease. A minute later a great run and cross to the back post by Dickinson was nodded home by Moore.

Catholic Club had a chance to get what would have been a consolation but Cram skied his effort from close range into the trees behind Smith's goal.
The Catholic Club keeper was in fine form denying Spedding twice, and then Betteridge. However, he couldn't do anything about Quilligans fourth. A cross finding Dickinson who ghosted in at the back post to head home.

Moore secured his brace after a good run and finish to make it 0-5, and Spedding got his hatrick making it 0-6, firing home the rebound after his initial effort had been well blocked by the Catholic Club keeper.
