Sanuk FC 4 v 1 AFC Additions

Sanuk welcomed Fleetwood side AFC Additions to a very windy Collins Park today. Fortunately the 50mph plus winds of the early morning has eased to 35mph otherwise there was a danger of the game being called off.

Sanuk were also delighted to get some players back after last week's game, and also included new signing ex-Poulton player Andy Mitchell in the squad.

Sanuk won the toss and played with the wind in the first half, finding things a bit tricky as passes were often over hit and ran out for goal kicks. However, Michael Clark's superb curling lob over the visiting keeper gave Sanuk a 1-0 lead.

The pressure on the Additions goal was relentless in the first half, but all credit to them as defended really well and kept Sanuk at bay. That was until Michael Clark's brilliant curling corner found Antony Pearson steaming in at the back post to make it 2-0.

Jordan Spedding should have added a third as a great run down the right by Grant Dell found him with the goal at his mercy, but a defender managed to block his effort on the line.

Half-time 2-0.

The second half was always going to be interesting as Additions took advantage of the conditions - now in their favour, and sure enough, 10 minutes in they pulled a goal back.

This seemed to galvanize Sanuk as they sensed their long unbeaten home record might be under threat. It was new signing Andy Mitchell who got on the end of a Paul Dickinson cross to restore Sanuk's two goal advantage.

Sanuk stormed forward to seal the game, and Grant Dell made a magnificent run which would have been a goal of the season contender but he lifted his effort just over the bar.

Marc Beattie was then lurking at the far post from Dickinson's clever cross controlling the ball expertly before dispatching it high in to the net seal the win.

In summary, a difficult game to play in with the wind and against a decent side who have been on an excellent run of form. As per last week, the lads showed great togetherness and determination, and those two traits alone can win you a game. Throw in the silky skills of Michael Clark and the reading of the game from skipper Phil Thompson at the back, and you have the basis of a good side that can win games and trophies. After one or two distractions in the early part of the season, the lads have now settled down and are playing well.
