Sanuk FC played Christ the King at a chilly but windless Boundary Park this morning hoping to maintain their dominant 9 point advantage at the top of the Premier Division. Missing were three of our "lefties" Dicko, Douthy and Nick Greenall, so Sanuk brought in non-league legend and former Fleetwood and AFC Fylde Martin Moran for his debut. John Beavers and new signing Zack McGurk were added to last weeks squad.
After a decent start for Sanuk with two goals being disallowed and Clarky's 25 yarder smashing the bar, CTK took a shock lead as young striker Lewis Battersby's shot squirmed through Smithy's grasp.
That seemed to shock Sanuk in to action and after some decent play Phil Thompson was on hand on the back post to head Sanuk level.
Half-time 1-1.
After a vigorous chat at the interval, Sanuk immediately stepped up a gear and poured the pressure on CTK. After 52 minutes Clarky's superb corner found Tommo once more, and he rose majestically at the far post to power his header home to put Sanuk 2-1 up.
The goal of the game arrived shortly after, Michael Clark smashing a screamer off the underside of the bar to put Sanuk 3-1 up and well in charge of the game. Ant Pearson then made a great run and was picked out by Clarky's delightful 40 yard through ball and he neatly lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to seal the game with 15 minutes remaining.
Full-time 1-4.
In summary, a workmanlike performance from the Champions. The poor state of the pitch meant this was never going to be a footballing classic, but Sanuk needed a nudge after going behind to finally wake up and step an gear.
Once in front in the second half, there was only going to be one winner. Mark Butler once more catching the eye with another superb performance, as was his partner Michael Clark whose left foot weaved it's usual magic, even on the poor surface.
Man of the match though goes to skipper Phil Thompson who scored two goals and made one fantastic goal saving sliding tackle towards the end of the game, and was rock solid throughout the 90 minutes.
