Pulcinellas FC 0 v 2 Quilligans FC

After the excellent midweek performance again the Devonshire Arms, it was back to league action against third from bottom side Pulcinellas. A win today would see Quilligans return to the top of the table two pints clear of Poulton, who were in cup action.

Match Action

On a good surface and sunny conditions Quilligans were first to threaten with Palmer's header and fierce drive both just wide of the upright. Just before the half hour Quilligans took the lead.

Match Action

A fine move down the left culminated in Ford flicking inside for Sugden who slotted home with equanimity from inside the area. Pulcinellas had a chance to hit straight back but Impett got underneath his header from close range.

Just before half time Quilligans doubled their lead, an exquisite looping header from Spedding had the Pulcinellas keeper in all sorts of trouble.

Half-time 0-2.

The second half saw Evans replacing Spedding up front. Baird nearly made it 3-0 just after the restart but he fired high and wide from the edge of the area. Evans was then reprehensibly scythed down in the area, but the referee waived away appeals for a penalty.

Match Action

Baird then tested the Pulcinellas keeper with a looping effort from distance. Quilligans thought that they had made it 3-0 when a Sugden cross was headed goalbound by Evans - his effort hitting the post and undoubtedly crossing the line. However, it seemed that the referee and his assistant were both destitute of vision and no goal was awarded.

Match Action

Pulcinellas then began to have their best spell of the game hitting the Quilligans bar, and another two efforts testing Speight. Their best chance to pull a goal back was a ball across the Quilligans area, which was met by a Pulcinellas player sliding in, but the effort went wide.
