Gary Collings
Sweeper who they said had no pace, couldn’t dribble and you couldn’t get a Gazette under him when he went up for an header, yet ended his career as the most decorated player ever in Sunday football. You only realised how important he was when he didn’t play and the defence was then in turmoil.

Steve Hartley
Gaz’s long time defensive partner and the perfect foil for him with his pace and athleticism, there was nobody Steve couldn’t catch, no matter how quick. Not the best technically but he more than made up for that with his fitness and attitude to the game and went on to star for Lancaster City well in to his thirties winning player of the year there twice.

Alan Gallagher
Tall rangy forward, who was renowned for the “sock miss”, blaming a two yard sitter on the fact his sock was creased, it had us creased in laughter that’s for sure. Terrific work ethic combined with a deft touch and outstanding aerial ability made him one of the best forwards ever to wear the Azzuri blue. Also was the dressing room joker.

The famous "sock miss" and his dry sense of humour
Mark Senior
The original “box to box” midfielder, he scored so many crucial goals late on in games it became a habit, in reality, his marker just couldn’t stay with him for fitness. They reckon he couldn’t trap a bag of cement and it’s true that in one game he put the ball in the stand that often, it should have had a ticket, but his attitude and commitment more than made up for any technical shortfalls.

Wayne Hughes
Possibly the most gifted player ever to pull on the shirt, had a great pro career playing for the likes of West Brom and Cardiff, and also represented Wales at under 23 level. Scorer of some of the finest goals ever seen locally, and he seemed to stroll through games and his passing and shooting skills were of the highest order.

Ritchie Hoyle
Arguably the best centre half ever in Sunday football, Ritchie had everything, pace, height, discipline and just used to mark people out of the game. Never took his football serious in the early days but once he did he was untouchable and if he had the ambition, he could have played a lot higher in Saturday football than North West Counties. Could still star in the Prem at the age of 40.

Ben Lavelle
Ben played with the grace of a ballet dancer and it was mentioned on occasions that he actually looked like one! Fantastic left sided player who had pace and a sweet left foot, he played in the Conference for Morecambe FC for many years and formed an outstanding left sided combination with Willie Torrance for us. Rumoured to use the same face cream as Steve Hartley.

Steve Trainor
Steve is probably the best midfielder ever to grace the Azzuri midfield. Very strong on the ball and always at peak fitness, few could go the distance with Steve. Unlucky to not have a pro career, he went on to play for the likes of Lancaster, Bamber Bridge and also starred for Fleetwood in their march to Wembley for the FA Vase final.

Willie Torrance
Powerful, aggressive left back, who could also play centre half, Willie used to dominate forwards both in the air and on the deck in the tackle. Played for Squires Gate, Fleetwood and Kendal Town on Saturday's and was Player of the Year when Mammas won the famous "Grand Slam" in 1993.

Tony Wood
Without doubt one of the legends of Fylde Sunday soccer, probably only Gaz Collings can claim to have lifted more silverware than Woody. Tough tackling full back who later played sweeper, he was a favourite of local referees and his "George Carmen" like speeches went down great at the Lancashire FA, where they even considered naming a room after him, such was his contribution.

Powerful centre-half who showed everybody what loyalty and commitment was all about in a career that spanned many years but just two clubs of note - King Edward and Quilligans. Also could throw a ball as far as many could kick it, and played Saturday football for Fleetwood, Wren Rovers and Mechanics.
