Mark Faber - The GafferWell were now halfway through September and at the time of writing this we are sitting four points clear at the top of the league - something if offered at the start of the season, I would of snapped your hand off.

However, but for a poor second half performance against Blackpool Rangers we could of been 100%.

We have in no way been handed an easy start either. We’ve played away at Poulton, home to Gardeners, Rangers and also the impressive Loco. However, the attitude and commitment of the lads has been terrific and we have worked hard and got our rewards.

What's most pleasing is the amount of chances we are making and taking, plus the goals are coming from all over the park. Last Sunday we traveled to Boundry Park to start our Gledhill campaign which will hopefully see us return to Bloomfield Road in May. We beat Uncle Toms but it was not as easy as the scoreline suggested.

They showed organisation and commitment that a few Prem teams could learn from, but we matched them in the battle and we were clinical in the final third. This week we go to Wigan to play Academy Sports in the Lancashire Sunday Trophy.

They have had a decent start to their league season and we won’t be taking them lightly. Interestingly the winners of the tie will probably play AFC Lostock Hall, who painfully beat us in the final last season. A defeat that is still fresh in my mind and I would love to have another crack at them should we progress Sunday.

The new lads that we signed in the summer have all fitted in superbly. Brian Manchester has been immense in the midfield, the lads another of the machines we seem to be collecting.

Young Aiden has shown that he is a great keeper who will challenge Smithy for the No 1 jersey. Dicko scored four on his debut and hasn’t looked back since, I’ve never seen anyone run as much during a game, and there's virtually always an end product.

Beattie has scored the goals we knew he would, including one with his first touch in our shirt. The lad's a class act and will pull even the top defences apart. Liam Dowell made his full debut at the weekend and was superb, winning the ball back quickly for us and always looks to play it simple.

Add to these the returns of massive players to our side this season like Sam Gorrie, Tabs, Broady, Bracey, etc. and you see just how strong we can be this season. I'm enjoying watching this side play and we could have a superb campaign if we keep up the standards that we have set so far.

The backroom staff has grown too recently with the addition of Ali Martin. Ali brings a great work ethic and passion with him to Quilligans and I’m sure he will fit in fine.

Our staff is second to none and I am extremely grateful to them for all the help and assistance that they give week in week out. Overall a great start to the season, but that's all it is, a start.

There is a long way to go and we have plenty of big games and challenges to overcome to achieve what we want, but if we stick together I don’t see us failing.

Fabes.
